Why My Husband gets Breakfast in Bed (Almost) Every Morning

(Okay, first, before you judge and start hating me….
Please,  just read the entire post).

I am NOT B.S.-ing.

I am NOT a weak or subservient woman by any means.

I DO cook him breakfast, ALMOST every morning, and I do bring it to him in bed.

Why?

A few reasons….

Picture
For starters, I am a morning person; and not just a morning person, but an EARLY morning person. With few exceptions, I get up at 3am every morning unless I went to sleep after 9pm the night before, which does happen.

Why do I get up at 3am? Because 3am seems to be the optimal time for me to start my day, quietly. We have a large family (9 of us @ home) and my office space is wide open. So when Mom/Grandma/Wife/Daughter/Sister (whatever hat I am wearing at the time) is at her desk, everyone seems to need me. Even though I bite their heads off when they bother me…..
I have a strict rule, “If the pen is moving, or the headphones are on, or I’m typing on the keyboard- LEAVE ME ALONE!!!”

But nobody listens…….

So after much frustration, I couldn’t change the 8 individuals I live with, but I could change me. So I get up at 3am. That gives me at least 4 hours of quiet uninterrupted time (minus the doggy potty breaks), to sip my tea and write. Write my novels, my stories, my blogs, my ideas… and anything else that requires my undivided attention.

So why am I cooking him Breakfast in Bed?

I usually do my breakfast (cook & eat) about 5:30/6am. Remember I said I’m a morning person? Well, my husband isn’t. Given the opportunity he’d stay in bed until noon.

Luckily his job (an hour away) is flexible. He can go in at 5am or 10am; it doesn’t make a bit of difference as long as he gets his job done and does his 40. Sometimes for him it’s better to go in later and work later because then he is usually alone in the office with his quiet time. I understand.

But our animals do not.

Those critters are kinda picky about being fed by a certain time. He throws the hay out every morning before he goes to work, so the kids and I don’t have to (it’s 4 bales a day), and also so he is the first to walk the property and make sure all is well.

So since I’m already cooking my breakfast at 5:30/6am, why not his too?

I used to make his breakfast and throw it in with his lunch (that I do pack, Monday-Friday), but sometimes he wouldn’t get a chance to eat it until lunch, and sometimes not at all. When he is at work, sometimes it’s hard to leave his desk and microwave something.

I’ve had desk jobs, retail jobs, labor jobs, you name it. I wasn’t always a stay-at-home wife/mom. But even with my self-imposed schedule, it can be tough to find time to eat.

Eating regularly is so important.

So, I take him his breakfast every morning. I kiss him and tell him I love him, then tell him to “Eat & get your Ass up!” Most days he gets up right away and eats. Then dresses and throws the hay, then does the three “S’s” and makes it to work by 9am. Most days. Again, he’s not a morning person.

I enjoy doing this.

It takes so little effort on my part to make a BIG difference on his day. Which in turn, affects mine. He used to be a BEAR and completely intolerable every morning. But now with our new routine which has been for going on for months now, he’s nicer.

And he Appreciates me.

I tell my kids to lead by example. This is what I do. If I am slacking and lazy, I expect no more than the same from those around me. But if I’m diligent, consistent, and committed, others will follow.

And they do.

This small token of my love for him, has helped add to the overall maturation of our relationship. There’s been other things we’ve done as well, that I’ll have to discuss in future posts, but for now, let me just say a few words in closing…..

If this idea does not appeal to you, then obviously it’s not for you. There are all types of wives living happy marriages that would never dream of doing this. I understand that, and I don’t judge, I can accept that that works for them.

This, works for my schedule.

If my schedule was different, if my needs and career choices were different, this would never be an option. I am a BITCH, through and through. When we both worked, I bought my lunches; he didn’t eat until he got home, and by that time he was a complete A**hole. He would be very grouchy like the “Snickers Divas” on the commercials. At the time, I just nagged and griped about how asinine that was… “You’re a grown man. You know you gotta eat, so EAT!”

When I finally decided to quit working and be at home (because a full-time job an hour away, running a farm, and home-schooling four kids-wasn’t working), I just took control of the situation and started feeding him. And that evolved into today’s current routine.

Abraham Lincoln once said,
“Whatever you Are, be a Good one.”

Well, I’m not a good wife, I’m the best wife. Not out of all the wives… That’s ridiculous! And I’d never try to compare myself to anyone or any one’s situations… We all walk our own paths.

But I AM the best wife-FOR HIM. At least that’s what I try to do and be, everyday.

It’s the same approach I use in Mothering my kids, Farming, Writing- the best for those I do these things for.

I hope I clarified any concerns/questions as to my intentions, by writing this. I hope you enjoyed it!

Feel free to comment or ask me questions!!!

Until next time..

Love,
T.B. Cooper

    Hello!

I’m T.B. Cooper, and I’m very excited to share my life with you. In between living on Pinterest, voicing political views of Equality (on Pinterest, Twitter and Tumblr), running an atypical farm in the Southern Nevada Desert, spiritually guiding & advising & fixing lives, and schooling my kids plus a bunch of others' kids (...that I'm not sure how they got here); you’ll find me fighting for desk space with my cats, attempting to keep their hair out of my tea, plugging my nose 'cause my bulldog likes to sleep & fart next to me, trying to actually do some work that makes ME happy…

I'm a woman of many traits and talents, some are better than others. In this Blog you'll find a little bit of everything. And I DO mean EVERYTHING!

Want to know more about me? Visit my About Page or we can talk (I'd love to hear from you), just head over to my Contact Page.
